Suspects Ask for Photo with Police Spokesman After Arrest Over Cocaine, Pistols

Two suspected drug dealers arrested by the Delta State Police Command surprised officers by requesting a photograph with the command's spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, shortly after being interviewed over allegations of drug trafficking and illegal possession of firearms. The unusual encounter was captured in a viral video that has attracted widespread attention on social media.

The suspects were arrested during a stop-and-search operation carried out by operatives of the Delta State Police Command's Safer Highways patrol team. According to Edafe, officers recovered two Beretta pistols concealed on the suspects, along with a substance suspected to be cocaine. The suspects allegedly admitted that they carried the firearms to protect their drug business.

Sharing details of the incident, Edafe said the suspects became excited when they realised they were about to be interviewed. In the viral clip, one of them recognised the police spokesman and praised his popularity before asking to take a picture with him. Edafe said he found the request unusual but responded jokingly that they should return for the photograph after completing their prison terms if found guilty.

The police spokesman used the incident to defend the command's continued stop-and-search operations, arguing that such routine checks remain an effective tool for intercepting armed suspects and recovering illegal weapons and drugs before they are used to commit crimes. He urged members of the public to support lawful policing measures aimed at improving public safety.

The Delta State Police Command has not disclosed the identities of the suspects, while investigations into the alleged offences are ongoing. If sufficient evidence is established, the suspects are expected to be charged in court in accordance with the law.
