‘Stop Pretending, Act Now’ — Bishop Oyedepo Knocks Tinubu Over Worsening Insecurity, Economy

The General Overseer of Living Faith Church Worldwide, also known as Winners Chapel, Bishop David Oyedepo, has criticised President Bola Tinubu over the worsening insecurity and economic hardship facing Nigerians, urging the Federal Government to take urgent and decisive action.

Oyedepo made the remarks during a church gathering in a video that has since circulated widely on social media, where he expressed concern over the continued attacks on communities and the deteriorating living conditions across the country.

The cleric said the Federal Government must move beyond what he described as pretence and demonstrate genuine commitment to tackling the nation’s security and economic challenges.

According to him, Nigerians have endured persistent violence and hardship for too long, warning that the patience of many citizens may soon wear thin if meaningful action is not taken.

“The president needs to act now and stop pretending,” Oyedepo said.

He condemned the continued killing of innocent Nigerians by armed groups, insisting that victims and their families should not be expected to sympathise with those responsible for such attacks.

The bishop stated that anyone who attacks innocent people should not expect prayers of goodwill from those affected, stressing that justice must prevail over impunity.

He also accused government authorities of appearing unaware of the gravity of the country’s security situation despite the recurring attacks recorded in several parts of Nigeria.

Oyedepo maintained that leadership requires urgent and practical responses capable of protecting lives and restoring public confidence rather than what he described as passive reactions.

The cleric noted that although he had remained silent on national issues for some time, the worsening situation compelled him to speak out.

He warned that continued inaction could fuel public frustration and deepen the existing crisis if urgent steps are not taken to address insecurity and improve the welfare of citizens.

His comments come amid growing concerns over rising insecurity, including attacks by armed groups, kidnappings and killings reported across different states, as well as increasing economic pressure on households following inflation and the rising cost of living.

The Federal Government has repeatedly maintained that it is implementing reforms and strengthening security operations to address the country’s challenges, while urging Nigerians to remain patient as the measures take effect.
