Sokoto State Governor Ahmed Aliyu has approved the payment of ₦450,000 each to 2,410 pilgrims currently performing the 2026 Hajj in Saudi Arabia, a move aimed at supporting their welfare during the holy pilgrimage.
The announcement was made by the Amirul Hajj and leader of the Sokoto State delegation, Alhaji Ummarun Kwabo, during an interaction with the pilgrims in Saudi Arabia. According to him, the financial support was approved by Governor Aliyu to ease the challenges faced by pilgrims and ensure they complete their religious obligations comfortably.
Kwabo explained that the gesture reflects the governor’s commitment to the wellbeing of Sokoto pilgrims, adding that the administration remains dedicated to supporting citizens both at home and abroad during important religious activities. Reports indicate that the funds would be distributed directly to the pilgrims to assist with feeding, transportation, and other personal needs while in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The development has generated positive reactions among many pilgrims, with several beneficiaries reportedly expressing gratitude to the Sokoto State Government for the unexpected financial support during the pilgrimage exercise.
The annual Hajj pilgrimage continues to attract thousands of Nigerian Muslims each year, with state governments often providing welfare packages and logistical support to assist pilgrims throughout the spiritual journey.
