Segun Aina: We’ll Protect JAMB’s Integrity With Every Legal Instrument

The new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor Segun Aina, has pledged to deploy every legal instrument available to protect the integrity of the examination body and strengthen public confidence in its operations.

Aina made the commitment on Friday during the official handover ceremony held at JAMB headquarters in Bwari, Abuja, following the expiration of the 10-year tenure of his predecessor, Professor Ishaq Oloyede.

President Bola Tinubu had appointed Aina in May to become the sixth registrar of JAMB after Oloyede completed two terms in office.

A professor of Computer Science at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Aina is the youngest registrar in the history of the examination body.

In his inaugural remarks, he assured stakeholders that his administration would preserve and build on the reforms established by previous leadership.

“Trust is not built by speeches. It is built by decisions, by the choices we make when no one is watching, by the standards we refuse to compromise, and by the confidence every Nigerian can place in the fairness of this institution,” Aina said.

He described integrity as the foundation of JAMB’s operations, stressing that technological advancement and efficiency would be meaningless without transparency and fairness.

According to him, every candidate must be confident that admission opportunities will continue to be determined by merit rather than manipulation or influence.

“Every young Nigerian must know that success in JAMB will continue to be earned through preparation, merit and honest effort—not through influence, manipulation or fraud,” he stated.

Aina also warned individuals involved in examination malpractice that the board would intensify efforts to identify, prevent and prosecute offenders.

He listed examination fraud, impersonation, certificate forgery, manipulation of Computer-Based Test centres and collusion with dishonest officials among offences the board would continue to tackle.

“To those who organise examination malpractice, recruit impersonators, forge credentials, compromise CBT centres and exploit desperate candidates, hear me clearly: your business is with the wrong institution,” he warned.

The new registrar pledged to combine technology, effective administration and investigations to combat fraud within the examination system.

He reaffirmed JAMB’s commitment to maintaining credible examinations and transparent admissions, promising that the board would continue to uphold fairness, accountability and professionalism in carrying out its statutory responsibilities across the country.
