Portable Faces Charles Okocha in 'Chaos in the Ring' Boxing Rematch Today

The highly anticipated "Chaos in the Ring" celebrity boxing bouts return to the Balmoral Convention Centre, Lagos, with indigenous singer Portable facing Charles Okocha, popularly known as Igwe 2pac, among other fights. The boxing bouts hold today, Friday, July 31, 2026, at the Balmoral Hall, Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island.

The event is organised by Balmoral Group in partnership with EV Motors, who have committed two brand-new electric vehicles as prizes for the winners of the event's two headline celebrity boxing bouts. The organisers unveiled the vehicles at an official press conference and reaffirmed a shared commitment to investing in Nigerian talent and expanding opportunities within the country's growing sports and entertainment ecosystem.

According to organisers, winners of the Portable vs. Charles Okocha showdown and the Mr Real vs. Idowest clash will each drive home a brand-new electric vehicle, raising the stakes for what is shaping up to be the biggest edition of the franchise yet.

Chairman of EV Motors, Dr Ned Okonkwo, described the partnership as one between two Nigerian brands that believe in the Nigerian dream, stressing it was built for the long term rather than a one-off sponsorship. Emphasising the company's belief in homegrown talent, he added that the brand does not believe in "Japa" — the popular term for emigration — but in transforming Japa into "Japada" by creating opportunities at home, adding that Nigeria has some of the greatest talents in the world, with boxing one of the strongest examples of that.

The Portable–Okocha bout is a rematch, coming after Portable secured a unanimous decision victory over Okocha in their first meeting earlier in the year, prompting the actor to invoke the rematch clause. Ahead of tonight's fight, the pair engaged in a heated on-stage confrontation, trading fierce insults, standing up and throwing mock punches, before security personnel intervened. Portable repeatedly declared he would defeat Okocha again, boasting of his previous win over the actor.

In a separate pre-fight television appearance, tensions boiled over again when Portable, who was shirtless throughout the interview, suddenly rose from his seat and began throwing fake punches in Okocha's direction, causing the studio to erupt as both men shouted over each other. Okocha, for his part, appeared visibly irritated and urged the singer to channel his aggression where it belonged.

Beyond the celebrity showdown, the fight card, now in its fourth season, also features a bout between Okafor Victor, popularly known as Mr Real, and Adekunle Idowu, known as Idowest, who have similarly traded jabs at each other ahead of fight night. The main event of the evening pits Nigeria's multiple award-winning boxer, Taiwo Esepo Agbaje, against South Africa's Ayabonga Sonjika, with Agbaje declaring he would punish his visiting opponent to show solidarity with Nigerians and other Africans who were subjected to xenophobic attacks in South Africa. Other undercard fights on the night include Godday Appah against Lekan "The Engine" Muibi, as well as Rilwan Lawal against Yusuf Adeniji.

Organisers of the franchise have said the broader goal behind Chaos in the Ring is to create world champions that belong to Africans, noting that Nigerian-blooded boxers such as Anthony Joshua, Deontay Wilder and Fabio Wardley currently fight under other nations' flags. They have also pointed to the promotion's economic impact on the sport locally, noting that boxers on the circuit used to earn as low as N50,000 per bout before the franchise began raising purses.

According to organisers, the fight will be streamed live, with tickets already on sale for physical attendance, and the celebrity showdown has continued to generate strong buzz online, with fans of both Portable and Okocha expressing confidence ahead of fight night.
