Police Arrest Suspected Bandit, Recover Ammunition in Kano
Kano Police arrested a suspected bandit in Bichi, recovering ammunition, military uniforms and fake identification after intelligence suggested he was supplying items to armed bandits.
The Kano State Police Command has arrested a suspected bandit and recovered a cache of ammunition, military uniforms and other security-related items during an intelligence-led operation in Bichi Local Government Area of the state.
The arrest was confirmed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa.
According to the statement, the suspect, identified as 28-year-old Mohammed Isah Haruna from Dala Local Government Area, was apprehended on Saturday after residents of Rimaye Village alerted security operatives about a man dressed in a suspected military uniform.
Police officers attached to the Bichi Division immediately responded to the intelligence report and, with the assistance of members of the Rimawa community, intercepted the suspect.
A search conducted during the arrest led to the recovery of one AK-47 magazine loaded with 30 rounds of live ammunition, an additional 79 rounds of AK-47 ammunition, two sets of suspected military uniforms, three military caps, a suspected fake military identity card and a pair of desert boots.
Officers also recovered a National Identity Card, a National Identification Number slip, a voter’s card and four Automated Teller Machine cards from the suspect.
During interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed that he had travelled to the area to deliver the recovered ammunition and military items to bandits operating in the surrounding forests.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, commended residents of the Rimawa community for their vigilance and timely information, describing community participation as essential to effective policing.
Bakori said the successful operation demonstrated the value of collaboration between security agencies and members of the public in combating criminal activities.
He urged residents across Kano State to continue supporting the police with credible and timely information capable of preventing crime and disrupting criminal networks.
The command confirmed that the suspect remains in police custody while investigations continue to identify and arrest other members of the suspected criminal syndicate.
Police authorities stated that the suspect would be charged to court upon the completion of investigations.
The arrest forms part of ongoing efforts by security agencies to curb banditry, illegal arms trafficking and other violent crimes across northern Nigeria through intelligence-driven operations and strengthened community policing initiatives.
