NYSC to Blacklist Companies That Fail to Provide Transportation, Accommodation for Corps Members
NYSC warned it will blacklist employers who fail to provide accommodation and transportation for corps members, while urging improved welfare, security and financial discipline during service.
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced plans to blacklist organisations that fail to provide adequate welfare for corps members posted to serve with them, particularly accommodation and transportation.
Director-General of the NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, made this known during an interactive session with corps members in Lokoja as part of his official working visit to Kogi State.
He said employers have a responsibility to create a conducive working environment for corps members, warning that organisations which neglect their welfare would no longer enjoy the privilege of having corps members posted to them.
General Nafiu reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to the welfare and security of corps members across the country. He also appealed to state governments, local government councils and other stakeholders to strengthen their support for the NYSC scheme to improve the overall service experience.
The NYSC boss reminded corps members that security is a collective responsibility, urging them to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to relevant security agencies.
He further advised them to uphold discipline, integrity and dedication throughout their service year, stressing that they represent not only the NYSC but also their families and institutions of graduation.
Nafiu encouraged corps members to take the post-camp Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme seriously, describing it as an important platform for acquiring practical skills and preparing for life after national service.
He urged them to identify business opportunities within their host communities and begin generating legitimate income while still serving.
The Director-General also advised corps members to cultivate the habit of saving despite the country’s economic challenges, noting that prudent financial management is essential for long-term prosperity.
According to him, the service year should serve as a foundation for developing responsible financial habits that will benefit them in the future.
Speaking during the visit, the NYSC Kogi State Coordinator, Mrs Tochi Chika Chris-Moneke, appreciated the Director-General for prioritising the welfare and security of corps members and staff.
She disclosed that the state secretariat is preparing to organise a Corps Employers’ Workshop and a Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers (HIRD) programme in the coming weeks as part of efforts to strengthen collaboration with employers and improve community development initiatives.
