Oyo Police Debunk Terrorist Infiltration Claims in Ogbomoso, Urge Calm

The Oyo State Police Command has dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging that suspected terrorists have infiltrated forests around Ogbomoso and the Old Oyo National Park, describing the claims as false and misleading.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, said the command had conducted comprehensive intelligence assessments and security reviews, which found no evidence to support the allegations.

According to the police, a viral video and accompanying voice note claiming that members of the Lukarawa terrorist group had entered forests in the Ogbomoso area were fabricated and intended to create unnecessary fear among residents.

“The Command unequivocally rejects and dismisses the claims contained in the said video and voice note as false, misleading and entirely without factual basis,” Ayanlade stated.

He explained that available intelligence reports and ongoing security monitoring across the state did not indicate the presence or movement of any terrorist group in the locations mentioned.

The police spokesperson stressed that security agencies remain vigilant and continue to monitor all parts of the state to ensure the safety of residents. He added that routine patrols, surveillance operations and intelligence-gathering activities are ongoing across Oyo State.

The command warned members of the public against spreading unverified information capable of causing panic or disrupting public peace. It urged residents to rely only on official sources for security-related information and to report suspicious activities through designated emergency channels.

Ayanlade noted that the circulation of false security alerts could undermine public confidence and distract security agencies from genuine threats requiring attention.

He reassured residents of Ogbomoso, Old Oyo National Park communities and other parts of the state that there was no cause for alarm, urging them to continue with their lawful activities without fear.

The police also encouraged community leaders, religious organisations and residents to cooperate with security agencies by sharing credible information that could help maintain peace and security.

The command reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property while maintaining law and order throughout Oyo State.
