‘Osun Is Bleeding’ — Adeleke Urges Tinubu to Stop Rising Political Tension

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the growing political tension in the state, warning that Osun is “bleeding” and urging the President not to allow the situation to deteriorate further.

Adeleke also called on Tinubu to ensure that the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, does not fuel political violence capable of disrupting the state ahead of the 2027 general election.

The governor made the appeal in a statement posted on his official social media page on Monday after addressing supporters during a campaign rally in Olorunda Local Government Area of Osun State.

According to Adeleke, the increasing loss of lives linked to political violence has become a serious concern, stressing that residents deserve a peaceful environment and a credible electoral process.

“At the campaign rally today in Olorunda Local Government Area, I appealed directly to Mr. President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu; Osun is bleeding, and our people will not be intimidated. His intervention is needed. The loss of innocent lives in Osun must stop. All we are asking for is simply a free and fair election,” the governor said.

Adeleke urged Tinubu to act as the father of the nation by protecting the democratic values he had fought to establish over the years.

He argued that with the 2027 general elections approaching, the President should ensure that his administration is not associated with actions capable of undermining democracy in Osun State.

“I reminded the President that the 2027 general elections are also around the corner, and he should not allow his nephew, Mr. Oyetola, the Minister for Marine and Blue Economy, to ruin his name and the democracy he fought along with many others,” Adeleke stated.

The governor further warned against a repeat of the political violence experienced during the 1983 elections, particularly in the South-West.

According to him, Nigerians should never witness a recurrence of such events, insisting that democracy can only thrive when citizens are allowed to freely choose their leaders.

Adeleke maintained that his appeal was intended to promote peace, safeguard democratic principles and protect the constitutional right of Osun residents to participate freely in the electoral process without fear or intimidation.
