Ooni Hails Okpebholo, Ododo for Humility, Good Governance

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, has commended Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo and his Kogi State counterpart, Ahmed Usman Ododo, for their humility, simplicity and commitment to people-oriented governance.

The monarch gave the commendation on Thursday when Governor Okpebholo, accompanied by Governor Ododo, paid him a courtesy visit at the Ooni’s Palace in Ile-Ife, Osun State.

According to a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Edo State Governor, Patrick Ebojele, the traditional ruler described the two governors as exemplary leaders whose modest lifestyle and accessibility distinguish them from many public office holders.

Welcoming the governors, the Ooni expressed delight over their visit and said the Yoruba people were proud to have leaders who remain connected to ordinary citizens despite occupying high political offices.

He noted that humility remains one of the most important qualities of effective leadership and praised both governors for demonstrating those virtues in their public service.

The monarch described Okpebholo and Ododo as among the most humble governors the country has produced, adding that they have consistently shown simplicity in their conduct and relationships with people.

According to him, their leadership style reflects the cherished Yoruba value of Omoluabi, which promotes integrity, respect, humility and responsible leadership.

The Ooni encouraged Governor Okpebholo to remain committed to his current approach to governance, stressing that servant leadership remains the most effective way to earn public trust and deliver meaningful development.

He added that leaders who remain close to the people are better positioned to understand their challenges and respond effectively to their needs.

Speaking on behalf of the two governors, Governor Ododo thanked the Ooni for his consistent efforts in promoting peace, stability and unity across Osun State and Nigeria as a whole.

He explained that the visit was intended to strengthen the relationship between political leaders and traditional institutions while promoting unity among Nigerians.

Ododo also acknowledged the important role traditional rulers continue to play in preserving cultural values, resolving conflicts and supporting national development.

The visit further underscored Governor Okpebholo’s commitment to engaging traditional institutions as strategic partners in advancing peace, strengthening social cohesion and promoting inclusive governance across Edo State and beyond.

Both governors reaffirmed their commitment to working with respected traditional leaders to foster development, encourage dialogue and improve the welfare of their respective states.
