Ogun to Empower 100,000 Residents Through Monthly Cash Intervention Scheme
Governor Dapo Abiodun says Ogun State will launch a monthly cash intervention programme targeting up to 100,000 residents as part of efforts to improve welfare and economic opportunities.
Governor Dapo Abiodun has announced plans by the Ogun State Government to launch the Renewed Hope Ward Development Programme aimed at providing monthly cash support to between 50,000 and 100,000 residents across the state within the next year.
The governor made the disclosure on Friday during the opening of the first session of the 15th Synod of the Remo Anglican Diocese held at Our Saviour’s Anglican Church.
The synod, themed “The Empty Tomb: An Authentic Proof of the Living Saviour, Jesus Christ,” was attended by church leaders, government officials and members of the Anglican Communion.
Abiodun said the Renewed Hope Ward Development Programme forms part of his administration’s efforts to improve the welfare of residents and strengthen economic opportunities across Ogun State.
The governor also revealed that his administration would prioritise the reconstruction of the Sagamu–Ode Lemo Road, stressing the importance of collaboration between government and religious institutions in promoting peace, justice and development.
He commended the Church for its contributions to spiritual growth, community development and nation-building, especially at a time when the country requires strong moral leadership and guidance.
According to him, the Church has continued to play a significant role in promoting peace, supporting education, healthcare, youth development and family values.
“Throughout history, the Church has stood as a moral voice in society, defending justice, caring for the vulnerable, and encouraging leaders to govern with fairness and integrity,” the governor said.
Abiodun also urged the clergy to encourage members to participate actively in the democratic process as the election season approaches.
He stated that the political atmosphere in Ogun State has become more peaceful compared to seven years ago, noting that the ongoing All Progressives Congress primaries have been transparent and free of violence.
“When I reflect on what happened during my own primaries seven years ago and compare it with what is happening today, it is like night and day,” he added.
In his sermon, the Bishop of the Remo Diocese and Archbishop of the Ecclesiastical Province of Lagos, Olusina Fape, praised the governor for implementing developmental projects across the state.
He particularly commended the recently inaugurated Gateway International Airport and the Light Up Ogun Project, describing them as major achievements capable of boosting commerce, investment and economic growth.
