Obi-Kwankwaso Alliance Has 70% Chance of Winning 2027 Election — Babachir Lawal

Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, has said a joint presidential ticket involving Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso would have a significantly better chance of winning the 2027 presidential election than if both politicians contest separately.

Lawal made the assertion during an interview with Symfoni TV, released on Saturday.

According to him, an Obi-Kwankwaso alliance would stand about a 70 per cent chance of winning the election, while he rated President Bola Tinubu’s chances at 50 per cent and declared that former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar would not emerge victorious.

“Peter Obi will try to be fair to everybody. Peter Obi will try to do that which is right. Peter Obi, Kwankwaso, take note, I’m pairing them,” Lawal said.

“Individually will be disaster, but I’m pairing them. So I’ll give them, on my own scale, close to like 70 per cent. Again, Bola, 50. Atiku, zero.”

The former SGF maintained that Atiku had no realistic chance of winning the 2027 presidential election.

“Definitely, Atiku will lose. He will, and I pray he loses. I’m not the only one, and he will lose,” he added.

Lawal’s latest comments come amid his ongoing fallout with Atiku following his resignation from the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Since leaving the party, the former SGF has repeatedly alleged that the ADC presidential primary that produced Atiku as the party’s presidential candidate was characterised by widespread irregularities.

The ADC has not officially accepted or responded to those allegations.

The remarks add to growing political debate over possible alliances ahead of the 2027 general election, with opposition leaders exploring strategies to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
