2027: PDP Chieftain Urges Makinde to Showcase Achievements
A Peoples Democratic Party chieftain has urged Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde to highlight his record in office as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 elections.
A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has urged Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde to showcase his achievements in office as discussions over his political ambition ahead of the 2027 general elections gather momentum.
The call comes amid growing political conversations about Makinde’s record as governor and his potential role in the contest for Nigeria’s presidency.
Makinde, who assumed office in 2019 and was re-elected in 2023, has highlighted infrastructure development, education, healthcare, agriculture and workers’ welfare as key areas of his administration’s activities.
Supporters of the governor have pointed to road construction, urban renewal initiatives and efforts to improve public services as evidence of his performance in Oyo State.
In May 2025, former Oyo PDP chairman Kunmi Mustapha praised Makinde’s record in infrastructure, education, healthcare and agricultural development, urging him to begin preparations for the 2027 presidential election.
Mustapha also argued that the governor’s experience in managing the state could strengthen his credentials for national leadership.
However, calls for political leaders to showcase their achievements have also raised the importance of public scrutiny, including assessments of project delivery, transparency, service quality and the impact of government policies on residents.
As the 2027 elections approach, candidates and their supporters are expected to face increasing pressure to present verifiable records of their performance alongside their policy proposals.
For Makinde, presenting a detailed account of his administration’s achievements and outstanding challenges could form a central part of discussions about his political future.
The governor’s record in Oyo State is likely to remain a subject of debate among supporters, opponents and voters as political parties prepare for the next general election.
