NIS Urges Nigerians, Foreigners to Use Only Official Passport, Visa Portals

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has advised Nigerians and foreign nationals to use only its official online platforms for passport and visa applications, warning that it has not authorised any religious organisation, private company or individual to collect payments or process applications on its behalf. The agency said the warning was issued to protect applicants from fraud and online scams.

In a statement posted on its official X account, the NIS clarified that passport applications for Nigerians, both within the country and abroad, should be processed exclusively through its official passport portal. It added that foreigners seeking Nigerian visas should use only the designated visa portal for embassy applications or the official e-visa platform for electronic visa requests.

The Service stressed that it has not entered into any partnership with third-party organisations or individuals to receive payments or act as intermediaries in passport or visa processing. It urged applicants to avoid unofficial websites and agents, warning that dealing with unauthorised platforms could expose them to fraud and financial loss.

The NIS also encouraged members of the public who require assistance or clarification to contact its verified communication channels, including its official social media accounts and dedicated WhatsApp support lines. It reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a secure, transparent and efficient passport and visa application process for all users.

The advisory comes amid ongoing efforts by the Service to strengthen digital immigration services while protecting applicants from fraudulent schemes that target passport and visa seekers.
