NCDC Says Nigeria Records No Confirmed Ebola Case Amid Regional Outbreak
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has announced that no confirmed case of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) has been recorded in Nigeria, despite ongoing outbreaks reported in parts of Africa.
The update was contained in a public health advisory posted on the agency’s official account, following recent Ebola outbreaks in the Democratic Republic of Congo and a reported imported case in Uganda.
According to the NCDC, Ebola Virus Disease is a severe viral illness transmitted through direct contact with infected bodily fluids or contaminated materials.
The agency noted that common symptoms include fever, headache, weakness, muscle pain, vomiting, and diarrhoea, while severe cases may involve unexplained bleeding.
It added that Nigeria has continued to strengthen disease surveillance systems, laboratory preparedness, infection prevention and control measures, and public awareness campaigns nationwide.
The NCDC also urged Nigerians to remain calm, maintain proper hand hygiene, avoid spreading misinformation, and promptly report any unusual illnesses through approved public health channels.
“Together, we can strengthen preparedness and protect public health,” the agency stated.
Health authorities reaffirmed their commitment to preventing the importation and spread of infectious diseases, especially amid rising concerns across the region.
