NAPTIP Rescues 202 Trafficking Victims in Katsina, Intensifies Awareness Campaign

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) says it rescued 202 victims of human trafficking in Katsina State between January and July 2026, highlighting the persistent threat posed by traffickers despite sustained public awareness campaigns. The agency disclosed the figures while commemorating the 2026 World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, observed annually on 30 July.

Speaking during the event in Katsina, the State Commander of NAPTIP, Musa Aliou, said the rescued victims comprised 147 females and 55 males. He explained that the agency has continued to intensify efforts to identify, rescue and rehabilitate victims while pursuing those involved in human trafficking across the state.

Aliou noted that this year's commemoration focused on educating the public about the dangers of human trafficking and encouraging collective action against the crime. According to him, the agency organised radio and television programmes, as well as a road walk across Katsina metropolis, to sensitise residents on the tactics commonly used by traffickers to deceive their victims.

The commander also described transport operators as critical partners in the fight against trafficking, saying they often encounter both victims and suspects during transit. He revealed that NAPTIP had engaged transport union leaders, who pledged to report suspicious movements that could be linked to human trafficking activities. He further warned that women and children remain the most vulnerable groups and urged members of the public to promptly report suspected trafficking cases.

NAPTIP expressed concern over the growing trend of internal trafficking in Katsina, noting that domestic trafficking has become more prevalent than cross-border trafficking in the state. The agency reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening public awareness, enforcement and community collaboration to combat the crime and protect vulnerable persons.
