Education advocate and Educare CEO, Alex Onyia, has revealed that the three Nigerian students who won gold medals at the 2026 International STEM Olympiad in Rome, Italy, had to overcome intense anxiety and pressure before achieving their historic success. Onyia, who sponsored the students' participation at a cost of €30,500, said the victory was the result of months of rigorous preparation, resilience and determination.

According to Onyia, the students initially struggled with fear and uncertainty as they competed against participants from 154 countries, but gradually gained confidence during the competition. He said the experience proved that Nigerian children can excel on the global stage when given the right opportunities and support, regardless of their background.

The three gold medallists were Egejurum Onyedikachi Ethan, who won gold in the Primary Mathematics category, Chimdiebube Onwubiko, who claimed gold in the Junior Mathematics category, and Don Anele Munachimso Marvelous, who won gold in both Mathematics and Science, making him one of the competition's standout performers. Their achievements earned Nigeria international recognition at the prestigious STEM Olympiad.

Reflecting on the accomplishment, Onyia said his goal was to inspire more Nigerian children to pursue excellence in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. He expressed hope that continued investment in education and young talent would produce a new generation of innovators capable of transforming the country's future.
