Monaco Release Pogba After Injury-Plagued Spell
AS Monaco have mutually agreed to terminate Paul Pogba’s contract after just one season at the French club. The 33-year-old made only six appearances, totalling 115 minutes, as recurring injuries limited his return from an 18-month doping ban.
AS Monaco have released former France international Paul Pogba after an injury-plagued spell at the club.
The French club announced on Wednesday that it had mutually agreed with Pogba to terminate his contract, which was originally due to run until June 2027.
Pogba, 33, joined Monaco in June 2025 as a free agent after serving an 18-month suspension for a doping violation.
However, his return to competitive football was severely disrupted by injuries.
The former Manchester United and Juventus midfielder made only six appearances for Monaco during the season, with just one of those coming as a starter, and accumulated 115 minutes of playing time.
He suffered several fitness setbacks, including calf, knee and thigh problems, with a recent thigh injury further complicating his efforts to regain full fitness.
Monaco sporting director Thiago Scuro acknowledged Pogba’s professionalism and contribution to the squad despite his limited time on the pitch.
Pogba also expressed gratitude to the club, his teammates, staff and supporters, describing his time in Monaco as an incredible experience.
The 2018 World Cup winner now becomes a free agent, with his future in professional football uncertain.
Pogba’s departure brings an early end to his attempted return to top-level football after a prolonged period away from the game.
