Man City Will Find New Rodri, Maresca Says
Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca says the club will look for a replacement for Rodri following the midfielder’s £65.4 million move to Barcelona. Maresca acknowledged Rodri’s importance but expressed confidence that City can successfully rebuild their midfield.
Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca says the club will seek a replacement for Rodri following the Spain international’s transfer to Barcelona.
Rodri completed his move to Barcelona for £65.4 million after seven successful seasons at Manchester City.
Maresca acknowledged the difficulty of replacing the 30-year-old midfielder but said City had successfully replaced key players in the past.
He pointed to the transition from David Silva to Kevin De Bruyne and from Fernandinho to Rodri as examples of the club successfully finding successors to influential midfielders.
The Italian said Rodri was an exceptional player whose departure represented a significant loss, but stressed that football clubs must constantly adapt as players move on.
City have already spent a club-record £116 million on England midfielder Elliot Anderson and are reportedly pursuing Lille midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi as part of their midfield rebuild.
Maresca also indicated that further changes could take place before the transfer window closes, as City continue to reshape their squad ahead of the new Premier League campaign.
The manager said he remained confident in the club’s recruitment process and ability to build a competitive squad despite Rodri’s departure.
