Makinde, Fayemi, Oyinlola Visit Obasanjo, Discuss 2027 Elections

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, former Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi and former Osun State Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola have met with former President Olusegun Obasanjo in Abeokuta, Ogun State, amid growing political activities ahead of the 2027 general election.

Makinde disclosed the visit in a brief post on his official Facebook page on Sunday, stating that the meeting focused on important national issues as Nigeria prepares for another election cycle.

According to the governor, the discussions centred on matters affecting the country and the need for wise leadership as the nation approaches the next general election.

“Earlier today, we visited Baba, His Excellency Chief Olusegun Obasanjo GCFR in Abeokuta,” Makinde wrote.

“Our discussions centred on important national issues in view of the upcoming general election. We appreciate Baba for his wise counsel at this crucial time in our nation’s history.”

The meeting has generated fresh political speculation, particularly as Makinde has already declared his intention to contest the presidency in the 2027 election.

The Oyo governor, who is completing his second and final term in office, announced his presidential ambition in May during a political rally in Ibadan, where he argued that Nigeria needed urgent reforms and renewed leadership.

Makinde maintained that the country’s economic and social challenges require decisive action, insisting that the time had come to reposition Nigeria.

Although Fayemi remains a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Oyinlola is a prominent figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), political observers believe their joint visit to Obasanjo could be linked to ongoing consultations ahead of the presidential election.

Former President Obasanjo has not publicly endorsed any presidential candidate for the 2027 election.

However, he has continued to play an influential role in national political discourse through consultations with political leaders across party lines.

The former president has also attracted public attention in recent days following renewed exchanges with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over past political events.

Despite the growing speculation surrounding the Abeokuta meeting, none of the participants disclosed any specific political agreements reached during the discussions, maintaining only that the visit was aimed at addressing issues of national importance ahead of the 2027 polls.
