LAUTECH Denies Closure Over Banditry, Says Institution Remains in Session
The management of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, has debunked reports suggesting that the institution was shut down over fears of a possible bandit invasion.
In a statement issued on Tuesday evening and signed by Olalekan Fadeyi on behalf of the Registrar, Mrs Olayinka Balogun, the university described the claims as false and urged the public to disregard them.
The management clarified that there was no security threat severe enough to warrant the closure of the institution, stressing that academic activities are still ongoing.
It stated that students are currently writing their examinations and that the exercise is continuing as scheduled without interruption.
The statement read in part that there was “no immediate reason” for the university to shut down, adding that LAUTECH remains fully operational and committed to its academic calendar.
“As a matter of fact, our students are currently writing their examinations and the exercise continues tomorrow,” the management said, adding that it regretted any inconvenience or panic the rumour may have caused among students, parents and guardians.
The university also reassured members of the public that adequate measures are in place to ensure the safety of students, staff and the entire campus community.
The clarification comes amid growing tension in parts of Oyo State following recent security incidents in nearby communities, including reported bandit attacks in Oriire Local Government Area.
Some of the affected locations are relatively close to Ogbomoso, which reportedly fueled speculation that the university had taken precautionary steps to shut down.
However, LAUTECH maintained that such reports were unfounded and not reflective of the current situation on campus.
The institution called on the public to rely only on official communication channels for accurate information regarding its activities and operations.
It further urged students to remain calm and focused on their examinations, assuring that normal academic and administrative activities would continue without disruption.
