Lagos, Ogun Police Kill Four Kidnappers, Rescue Five Victims in Joint Operation
Police operatives in Lagos and Ogun States have killed four suspected kidnappers and rescued five abducted victims during a coordinated operation against criminal elements in the two states
Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in Lagos and Ogun States have neutralised four suspected kidnappers and rescued five abducted victims following a joint operation aimed at dismantling kidnapping networks operating across the boundary areas of the two states.
The operation, which was reportedly carried out based on credible intelligence, saw the police engage the suspected kidnappers in a fierce gun battle, leading to the death of four of the suspects and the recovery of the victims unhurt.
According to police sources, the kidnappers had been on the trail of the security agencies for some time, with several reported cases of abductions, attacks on travellers, and other criminal activities traced to their gang in recent weeks.
The police said the suspects were tracked to a hideout in one of the boundary axes between Lagos and Ogun States, where they were holding the victims and reportedly planning further criminal operations.
During the operation, the operatives, who deployed superior firepower and tactical strategies, overpowered the suspects, neutralised four of them, and rescued the five captives held at the hideout.
The rescued victims were said to be in stable condition and were subsequently evacuated to a safe location for medical examination, debriefing, and reunion with their families.
The police authorities commended the officers involved in the operation for their professionalism, courage, and dedication, noting that the success of the operation marked a significant blow to the activities of kidnappers in the area.
They also acknowledged the cooperation of residents and the strategic intelligence sharing between the Lagos and Ogun State police commands, stressing that such collaboration remains vital in tackling cross-border criminal activities.
The Force assured residents of both states and other Nigerians that the police would continue to intensify operations against kidnappers, armed robbers, cultists, and other criminal elements threatening the safety of citizens.
It also warned criminals to desist from their nefarious activities or face the full weight of the law, stressing that the police would not relent in their efforts to ensure a safe and secure environment for all.
The police further appealed to residents of the affected boundary communities and other parts of the two states to remain vigilant, support law enforcement operations, and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
The operation comes amid a renewed focus on tackling kidnapping and related crimes in the South-West region, where security agencies have stepped up patrols, raids, and intelligence-driven operations to address the rising trend of abductions and attacks on residents and travellers.
The success of the Lagos and Ogun State police operation is expected to provide some relief to residents and travellers across the affected axes, while also serving as a strong warning to other criminal groups operating in the area.
The police vowed to track down other members of the gang who reportedly escaped during the operation, while investigations continue into the activities of the network, its sponsors, and any wider links to other criminal operations in the region.
Stakeholders, including civil society organisations, traditional rulers, and community leaders, have continued to call for sustained intelligence-driven operations, improved security infrastructure, and stronger collaboration among security agencies to confront the rising tide of insecurity in the country.
The development is also expected to encourage public confidence in the ability of the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to address security challenges through professional and well-coordinated operations.
The Force reaffirmed its commitment to delivering on its mandate of protecting lives and property and ensuring that those engaged in criminal activities are brought to justice in line with the laws of the country.
