Katsina State to Expand Women Empowerment Initiative Across All 34 Local Government Areas

KATSINA — Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda, has announced plans to expand the Nigeria for Women Programme Scale-Up (NFWP-SU) across all 34 local government areas of the state following the success recorded in the initial pilot phases.

The announcement came after Governor Radda interacted directly with beneficiaries of the initiative in Daura, where more than 57,000 participating women across the pilot communities have successfully established local savings groups, upgraded their small businesses, and accumulated over ₦349 million in collective savings.

The Nigeria for Women Programme Scale-Up is a World Bank-backed project carried out in collaboration with the Federal Government and participating state administrations. It targets long-term poverty alleviation by improving women's access to financial inclusion, enterprise support, and community-based savings networks.

During his visit to inspect the program's outcomes, Governor Radda highlighted that beneficiaries demonstrated remarkable financial discipline, creating structured savings affinity groups that significantly improved household economic stability.

Building on the initial results seen in the trial areas, the Katsina State Government is rolling out the operational model to cover all remaining local councils to ensure equitable access to micro-funding and business resources.

Governor Radda stressed that investing in women's economic independence remains a direct catalyst for community development, noting that financial stability among mothers directly leads to better healthcare outcomes, improved school attendance for children, and reduced social vulnerability across the state.
