Kano Govt Orders Recovery of Duplicate July Salaries, Blames Bank Glitch

The Kano State Government has directed the recovery of duplicate July 2026 salary payments mistakenly credited to some civil servants, attributing the incident to a technical glitch during the salary payment process.

The directive was contained in a notice dated July 26, 2026, and signed by the Deputy Director of the Kano Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (KIPPIS), Abdulhadi Hamza, on behalf of the State Accountant General.

According to the government, the duplicate salary payments occurred due to a technical issue experienced by the bank responsible for processing the salary disbursement.

The notice explained that the financial institution had already commenced efforts to reverse the excess payments directly from the accounts of workers who received the duplicate salaries.

“The concerned bank is currently making efforts to reverse the duplicate payments directly from the affected accounts. In view of this, all affected staff are kindly advised not to take any action at this time and to await further directives from the Office of the Accountant General,” the circular stated.

The government urged affected civil servants to remain calm and refrain from making withdrawals or taking any independent action regarding the duplicate payments until the recovery process is concluded.

It further explained that where the bank is unable to retrieve the excess payment through the automatic reversal process, affected workers would receive formal notification from the Accountant General’s Office.

The notice assured workers that clear guidelines would be provided on the appropriate procedure for refunding any overpaid amount should manual recovery become necessary.

The Accountant General’s Office also appealed for patience and cooperation from civil servants while efforts continue to resolve the issue and restore the payroll system to normal operation.

Although the government did not disclose the number of workers affected or the total value of the duplicate payments, it maintained that the incident was purely technical and not the result of any deliberate payroll adjustment.

The administration reiterated its commitment to maintaining transparency and accountability in salary administration while working with the affected bank to ensure that all irregular payments are corrected promptly.

Officials expressed confidence that the recovery exercise would be completed without disrupting future salary payments or affecting the integrity of the state’s payroll system.
