Iran Denies Trump's Claim of Fresh US Talks

Iran has dismissed US President Donald Trump's claim that fresh negotiations between Tehran and Washington are underway, insisting that no direct talks are currently taking place. Iranian officials said the country's immediate focus remains discussions with Oman on reopening the Strait of Hormuz rather than broader negotiations with the United States.

Trump had earlier claimed that he suspended plans for a major military strike after receiving assurances that diplomatic talks with Iran would resume. However, Iran's Foreign Ministry rejected the assertion, describing the President's remarks as inaccurate and maintaining that no new negotiations with Washington have been agreed.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said discussions with Oman are limited to securing safe maritime passage through the Strait of Hormuz and should not be interpreted as renewed US-Iran peace talks. He added that reopening the strategic waterway alone would not resolve the wider crisis, accusing the United States of continuing policies that have fuelled regional tensions.

The conflicting statements come amid heightened tensions following months of hostilities between the two countries. Gulf allies have reportedly encouraged both sides to pursue diplomacy to prevent further escalation, while concerns remain over disruptions to global oil supplies and regional security.

Despite the public disagreement over the existence of talks, international observers say diplomatic efforts through intermediaries are continuing, although there is no indication that direct negotiations between Tehran and Washington have formally resumed.
