Insecurity: Igboho Offers To Secure Oyo Public Schools
Sunday Igboho offers to deploy private security operatives to public schools in Oyo State following rising insecurity and recent kidnappings of pupils and teachers in Oriire communities.
Yoruba nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, has written to Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, expressing readiness to deploy personnel of his private security outfit to public schools across the state amid rising insecurity concerns.
The proposal comes 24 days after the abduction of pupils and teachers during coordinated attacks on schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, an incident that reignited fears over the safety of learning environments.
In a letter dated June 9, 2026, Igboho, through his organisation, Iru Ekun Private Security Limited, requested detailed information on public schools and their locations across the state to enable planned deployment.
The correspondence was addressed to the Commissioner for Education and copied to Governor Seyi Makinde. It stated that the outfit is prepared to collaborate with the state government to reinforce protection around schools and reduce vulnerability to attacks.
The letter explained that the plan involves stationing at least two trained operatives in each identified public school. These personnel would be responsible for securing entrances, monitoring movement within school premises, coordinating with principals, and working alongside community vigilante groups to prevent criminal intrusion.
The outfit also proposed structural improvements, advising the government to consider fencing all public schools across the state to strengthen perimeter security and make monitoring easier for stationed guards.
It further emphasized urgency, warning that delays in preventive measures could expose more children and teachers to danger, especially in rural and high-risk communities. The group said proactive deployment, combined with proper security data, could help build a protective network around schools.
The organisation also reiterated its willingness to work with education authorities, including SUBEB, TESCOM, school administrators, and community leaders to ensure coordinated implementation of any approved security arrangement.
While acknowledging ongoing efforts by state and federal security agencies to respond to recent kidnappings, the proposal stressed that preventive action remains crucial to avoiding future attacks.
On May 15, 2026, gunmen reportedly abducted several pupils and teachers during attacks on Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota; Community Grammar School; and L.A. Primary School, Esiele, all in Oriire Local Government Area.
The incident has since intensified calls for stronger security measures around schools across Oyo State, particularly in vulnerable rural areas.
