INEC Warns Nigerians Against Fake CVR Website, PVC Home Delivery Scam
For voter registration services. INEC has alerted the public to a fake online voter registration site and a PVC home delivery scam, warning Nigerians not to share personal information on fraudulent platforms. The commission says only its official CVR portal is valid.
The Independent National Electoral Commission has warned Nigerians against a fraudulent website claiming to offer nationwide online voter registration services and a PVC home delivery scheme. The commission said the site has no connection to INEC and urged the public not to submit personal details on it.
INEC said the fake platform is being circulated online to mislead unsuspecting citizens and harvest sensitive data. It stressed that Nigerians should not click on the link or trust any message promoting home delivery of Permanent Voter Cards outside official channels.
According to the commission, the only approved portal for Continuous Voter Registration is its official CVR website. That portal is the proper place for eligible citizens who want to register as new voters, transfer registration, correct personal information, or replace lost or damaged PVCs.
The warning comes as online scams around voter registration continue to surface whenever INEC rolls out electoral services. In earlier cases, the commission has repeatedly disowned fake registration pages and reminded the public that any site outside its official portal should be treated as suspicious.
INEC’s concern is not only about misinformation but also about data security. Fraudulent sites can collect names, phone numbers, identity details and other personal information that may later be used for scams or identity theft.
The commission has therefore urged citizens to verify every electoral message before acting on it. It advised Nigerians to rely only on official INEC communication channels and to ignore claims that voter registration can be completed through unofficial websites or private agents.
The broader issue reflects a recurring pattern in Nigeria’s electoral space, where fake online portals often appear around registration periods. INEC says vigilance is necessary because these scams are designed to look legitimate enough to deceive people quickly.
For now, the message from the commission is straightforward: use only the official CVR portal and treat any offer of PVC home delivery or alternate registration links as a scam.
