I Was Removed as APC Chairman Through Zoom Meeting at Aso Rock — Oshiomhole
Former APC National Chairman Adams Oshiomhole says he was removed from office through a Zoom NEC meeting held at the Presidential Villa after efforts to unseat him democratically failed.
Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole, has opened up on the circumstances surrounding his removal from office, claiming he was sacked through a virtual meeting conducted from the Presidential Villa.
Speaking during an interview on AIT, the Edo North senator said his leadership contributed significantly to the success of the APC and the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Oshiomhole stated that under his leadership, the APC secured electoral victories and successfully resolved internal disagreements within the National Assembly without requiring direct intervention from the presidency.
According to him, members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) played a major role in stabilising the political system and ensuring effective coordination between the executive and legislative arms of government.
“I led my party to victory under Buhari. With my colleagues in the National Working Committee, we were able to fix the leadership tussle in both the Senate and the House of Representatives effortlessly,” he said.
The former governor of Edo State alleged that once stability returned to the system, efforts were made to remove him from office.
He claimed that after attempts to unseat him through internal party processes failed, some individuals in his ward allegedly initiated a petition against him, leading to legal proceedings.
According to Oshiomhole, a court initially granted an interim order against him, which was later overturned by the Court of Appeal before being reinstated weeks later.
He further alleged that shortly afterward, a meeting of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) was conducted virtually from the Presidential Villa, leading to his removal as national chairman.
“Once the system got stabilised, I was sacked through Zoom. When people could not get me removed democratically, they claimed that eight members of my ward signed a petition against me. The matter went to court, and eventually I saw, for the first time, a National Executive Committee meeting held by Zoom in the Villa,” Oshiomhole stated.
His comments have reignited discussions about the circumstances that led to his exit as APC national chairman in 2020, a period marked by intense internal disputes within the ruling party.
