‘I’m Sorry, My Daddy’ – Desmond Elliot Apologises To Gbajabiamila Over Political Tensions
Lagos lawmaker Desmond Elliot has publicly apologised to his political mentor and Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, saying any misunderstanding between them during recent political developments was unintentional.
Elliot made the apology during an appearance on TVC’s “Your View” programme on Friday, where he reaffirmed his loyalty to party unity and his commitment to development in his constituency.
The apology comes amid lingering tensions linked to the crisis within the Lagos State House of Assembly leadership, during which Gbajabiamila revealed that he nearly lost his position at the Presidency over allegations connected to Elliot’s alleged political activities.
Gbajabiamila had earlier claimed that President Bola Tinubu confronted him over intelligence reports suggesting Elliot’s involvement in efforts to destabilise the Lagos State House of Assembly during the speakership tussle involving Mudashiru Obasa, an allegation Elliot denied.
Speaking on the programme, Elliot said he entered politics under Gbajabiamila’s guidance, whom he described as his “egbon,” adding that misunderstandings may have contributed to their strained relationship.
“I’m not saying, oh, yes, media will come out, oh yes, Desmond begs again. Yes, because he’s my egbon. And I grew up learning everything I knew in politics through him,” he said.
He further emphasised the importance of reconciliation in political relationships, noting that disagreements are sometimes inevitable.
“To err is human, to forgive is divine. So I’m sorry, my daddy, if I’ve offended you in any way,” Elliot said.
He also extended apologies to the “matriarch of Surulere,” expressing regret for any unintended offence caused during the political tensions.
“To the matriarch of Surulere, mama, I’m sorry if I’ve offended you,” he added.
Despite the apology, Elliot maintained that he remains focused on strengthening the party and fulfilling his responsibilities to his constituents in Surulere, Lagos State.
