Haiti's Historic Return Cut Short

Haiti, making an emotional return to the World Cup stage for the first time in 52 years, became the very first team officially knocked out. After a narrow 1-0 loss to Scotland in their opening match, their fate was sealed with a 3-0 defeat against Brazil in Philadelphia.

First-half goals from Matheus Cunha (22', 35') and Vinícius Júnior (45+2') secured the points for the Seleção. With zero points from two matches, Haiti cannot catch up to Brazil and Morocco (4 points each) or Scotland (3 points), concluding a valiant run that served as a profound symbol of hope back home.

In one of the tournament's early shockers, Group D heavyweights Türkiye crashed out following a frustrating 1-0 loss to Paraguay at the San Francisco Bay Area Stadium. Türkiye had entered the tournament heavily favored to battle the United States for the top spot in the group but leave without scoring a single goal in their first two matches.

Matías Galarza caught the Turkish defense off guard just 64 seconds into the match, unleashing a 25-meter rocket to score the fastest goal of the tournament so far. Türkiye received a massive advantage in first-half stoppage time when Paraguay's Miguel Almirón was sent off with a straight red card. Despite holding nearly 80% possession and registering an astonishing 32 shots, Türkiye failed to crack a disciplined, 10-man Paraguayan defense.

The result officially crowns the United States as Group D winners, while Paraguay and Australia remain alive to battle for the remaining slots.
