Former UN General Assembly President Professor Tijjani Muhammad-Bande will chair Usmanu Danfodiyo University's maiden international journalism conference exploring the impacts of artificial intelligence on national development.
Former United Nations General Assembly President, Professor Tijjani Muhammad-Bande, is slated to chair the highly anticipated inaugural International Conference hosted by the Department of Mass Communication at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS).
The academic summit is specifically designed to spark critical analysis regarding how rapidly advancing technology intersects with information landscapes. Running under the central theme of "Media and National Development in the Era of Artificial Intelligence," the event will draw leading global academics, media experts, and policy architects to confront both the systemic hurdles and creative possibilities that automated intelligence brings to traditional journalism.
Professor Muhammad-Bande, who also previously served as the Vice-Chancellor of the institution, will officially launch the primary proceedings at the university auditorium.
The multi-day summit features a premium lineup of regional and international heavyweights:
- Keynote Speaker: Professor Kehbuma Langmia, a distinguished double Fulbright Scholar based out of Howard University in Washington D.C., will deliver the event's defining address.
- Pre-Conference Speaker: Professor Fatma El-Sayed of Cairo University, Egypt, will initiate the event's academic program.
- Institutional Support: The university's Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Professor Attahiru Jega, will also be in attendance alongside top management officials.
Organising Committee Chairman Dr Danladi Bako highlighted that the gathering aims to move beyond generic talking points. Instead, it will serve as a foundational collaborative hub for local and global thinkers to chart how West African media can responsibly harness machine learning without compromising ethics or institutional integrity.
