Ghana's GDP grows 5.4% in first quarter driven by agriculture and services
Ghana's economy expanded at 5.4 per cent in the first quarter of 2025, according to the Ghana Statistical Service, buoyed by strong performance in agriculture and the services sector.
Ghana's economy expanded at 5.4 per cent in the first quarter of 2025, according to figures released by the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS), buoyed by strong performance in agriculture and the services sector.
The Government Statistician, Professor Samuel Kobina Annim, said the growth was broad-based, with industry recording 3.8 per cent, services 6.1 per cent and agriculture 5.7 per cent expansions respectively.
"The results affirm the resilience of the Ghanaian economy and the effectiveness of the government's economic stabilisation programme," Prof. Annim said at a press conference in Accra.
The positive figures come amid improved fiscal discipline, declining inflation and a recovering cedi. The Bank of Ghana has maintained its policy rate at 28 per cent as inflationary pressures ease.
The International Monetary Fund has projected Ghana's full-year growth at 4.8 per cent, slightly below the government's target of 5.5 per cent.
