Fubara’s Brother Declares Rivers Governorship Bid Under NDC
Blessing Fubara, brother of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, has declared his governorship ambition under the NDC, promising to restore stability, protect zoning and serve only a single four-year term.
Blessing Fubara, brother of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, has declared his intention to contest the Rivers State governorship election under the platform of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC).
Speaking ahead of the party’s governorship primary, Fubara described himself as a “ready, competent and energetic” candidate determined to restore peace, political stability and economic prosperity to Rivers State.
According to him, the state has suffered major political and economic setbacks in recent times, leading to the loss of opportunities, investments and public confidence.
“We have lost opportunities. We have lost investments. We have lost our dignity as a people. We have lost our pride as Rivers people,” he said.
The governorship aspirant called for unity among Rivers residents across political, ethnic and social lines, urging citizens to work together to reclaim what he described as the state’s lost glory.
“Today, we see a Rivers State that is distressed. Today, we see a Rivers State that is shortchanged. Today, we see a Rivers State that seems almost like a conquered state. No, we are not a conquered people,” he stated.
Fubara also pledged to uphold the state’s political zoning arrangement, insisting that the Rivers South-East Senatorial District should be allowed to complete its constitutionally expected eight-year tenure in office.
“We have vowed to you to keep the peaceful existence of the political rotation of Rivers State according to our founding fathers by our districts,” he said.
In a major campaign promise, the NDC aspirant declared that he would serve only a single four-year term if elected governor.
“I have vowed to do just a four-year one-term tenure to bring the expected prosperity and development in Rivers State,” he added.
Fubara argued that political influence should not be measured solely by financial resources, maintaining that grassroots support and public trust remained more important in democratic politics.
His declaration adds a new dimension to the evolving political landscape in Rivers State ahead of the 2027 general elections, as parties continue preparations for governorship primaries and coalition negotiations.
