Former Chief of Air Staff, Sadique Abubakar, has announced his withdrawal from active politics, declaring that he no longer belongs to any political party.

Abubakar, who was the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Bauchi State during the 2023 elections, made the announcement in a statement shared on his official X account on Sunday.

According to him, he is stepping away from political contests and partisan activities but will continue contributing to national development as an ordinary citizen.

“I say goodbye to the murky waters of Nigerian politics,” the retired Air Marshal stated while confirming that he would no longer seek elective office.

Abubakar entered politics shortly after retiring from military service in 2021 and quickly became a major opposition figure in Bauchi State politics. He contested the 2023 governorship election under the APC but lost to Governor Bala Mohammed of the Peoples Democratic Party.

His exit from politics comes amid recent speculation linking him to a possible return to the governorship race in 2027 after campaign posters reportedly surfaced in parts of Bauchi State.

Before joining politics, Abubakar served as Nigeria’s Chief of Air Staff from 2015 to 2021 and was widely known for overseeing several counter-insurgency and military modernization operations during his tenure.

Political observers say his departure marks the end of a short but influential political chapter in Bauchi State politics.
