Fire Service Unveils Medical Scheme, Raises Interest-Free Loan to ₦500,000

The Controller-General of the Federal Fire Service (FFS), Olumode Samuel Adeyemi, has unveiled a Medical Intervention Scheme and other welfare initiatives, including an increase in the Service's interest-free loan facility from ₦300,000 to ₦500,000, as part of efforts to improve the welfare of officers and men.

Speaking during the inauguration of a Quarter Guard at the Federal Fire Service National Headquarters in Wuse, Abuja, Adeyemi said staff welfare has remained a top priority since he assumed office. He explained that the new medical scheme was introduced to reduce the financial burden of healthcare on personnel, while the expanded loan facility would provide greater financial support to firefighters.

The Controller-General also disclosed that he declined a planned grand reception organised in his honour by friends in Nigeria and abroad, choosing instead to channel the funds towards the welfare of firefighters. According to him, the money was used to procure mattresses and other essential items for personnel across the country.

Adeyemi noted that the welfare reforms have significantly boosted the morale of officers, pointing to the voluntary construction of the newly inaugurated Quarter Guard by personnel without any directive from the leadership. He described the gesture as a reflection of the confidence firefighters now have in the vision and direction of the Service.

He further directed the Chairman of the Controller-General's Awards Committee to document the initiative and other outstanding contributions by officers nationwide for formal recognition, reaffirming the Service's commitment to rewarding excellence and improving the welfare of its workforce.
