FG Directs Payment of Civil Servants’ Outstanding Wage Awards Before Mid-August

The Federal Government has directed the immediate payment of all outstanding wage awards owed to civil servants, assuring workers that the disbursement will be completed before the middle of August as part of efforts to address unresolved welfare concerns.

The directive was issued by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, during a meeting with leaders of the Joint Public Service Negotiating Council (JPSNC) in Abuja.

According to a statement released on Wednesday by the Head of Information and Public Relations at the Ministry of Finance, Efe Ovuakporie, the meeting was attended by labour representatives led by the National President of the JPSNC, Kabiru Minjibir.

Oyedele explained that the Federal Government had already begun addressing several labour-related issues before receiving the council’s formal communication.

He reaffirmed the commitment of President Bola Tinubu’s administration to fulfilling promises made to Nigerian workers through dialogue and constructive engagement.

According to the minister, the process for releasing the outstanding wage awards has reached its final stage, expressing confidence that eligible public servants would begin receiving payments before mid-August.

He also directed relevant government officials to review the submissions made by the labour council and accelerate action on all outstanding issues requiring government intervention.

While acknowledging delays in implementing some workers’ entitlements, Oyedele pledged greater transparency, regular consultations with organised labour and prompt implementation of approved decisions.

The government further assured workers that outstanding promotion arrears were being processed in accordance with established procedures.

Speaking at the meeting, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Raymond Omachi, promised closer collaboration with labour unions, assuring them that approved benefits would be processed without unnecessary delays.

Similarly, the Permanent Secretary in charge of Special Duties, Mohammed Danjuma, disclosed that promotion arrears omitted from Batch Seven were now being processed alongside Batch Nine.

Director of Cash Management, Christiana Osho, also confirmed that reconciliation of the outstanding wage awards had been completed and that payment was awaiting final release.

Responding on behalf of labour, Minjibir urged the Federal Government to resolve all pending welfare issues, including promotion arrears, salary relativity for health workers and peculiar allowances.

He noted that timely implementation of the agreements would strengthen industrial harmony and restore workers’ confidence in government.

The latest agreement is expected to suspend the JPSNC’s planned August 11 ultimatum over unresolved welfare demands.
