Fayemi Urges Opposition To Support Oyebanji After Re-election

Former Governor of Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi, has congratulated Governor Biodun Oyebanji on his re-election, describing the outcome of the governorship election as a strong endorsement of his administration’s performance.

Fayemi, in a statement issued on Sunday by Ahmad Sajoh, Head of Fayemi Media Office, said Oyebanji’s victory represented the confidence of Ekiti people in his leadership and governance approach.

The immediate past governor and former Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum noted that Oyebanji’s victory across all 16 local government areas of the state was a clear indication that residents appreciated the achievements recorded during his first term.

“I join other well-meaning Ekiti citizens and friends of our dear state in congratulating Governor Biodun Oyebanji on his decisive re-election. This victory is a powerful statement by our people that they recognise and appreciate purposeful governance,” Fayemi said.

He commended the people of Ekiti State for their peaceful participation in the election and praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies for ensuring a largely peaceful exercise.

Fayemi urged Oyebanji to sustain the momentum of his first term by focusing on key sectors including infrastructure, healthcare, agriculture and human capital development.

The former governor also appealed to candidates who contested the election under different political platforms, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and African Democratic Congress (ADC), to accept the outcome in good faith and work with the governor.

“Elections are contests, not wars. I urge the other candidates who contested this election to take the lessons from it in good faith and join hands with Governor Oyebanji in the task of building our state,” he said.

Fayemi stressed that Ekiti’s development should remain above political differences, urging all stakeholders to unite in the interest of the people.

“Ekiti is bigger than any one of us, and it is only by working together, across party lines, that we can give our people the development they deserve,” he added.

He further called on Ekiti indigenes at home and abroad to support Oyebanji’s second term, saying collective efforts were necessary to sustain good governance and progress in the state.

Oyebanji was declared winner of the election after polling 319,224 votes, defeating PDP candidate Wole Oluyede and ADC candidate Dare Bejide.
