Farooq Oreagba: I Was Worth $250m at 40 Before Losing My Fortune • Says Cancer Battle Taught Him That Health Matters More Than Wealth

Business executive and investment banker Farooq Oreagba has reflected on his dramatic financial journey, revealing that he was a dollar millionaire at the age of 30 but was working as a labourer in England five years later after losing his banking job. Speaking during an appearance on the MENtality show, Oreagba said the experience taught him that life and good health are far more valuable than money.

Oreagba explained that despite his financial setback, he was determined to survive and rebuild his life, taking on manual jobs while living in the United Kingdom. He said many people were unaware of his struggles because he maintained his composure and refused to let his circumstances define him.

Using a hypothetical scenario during the interview, he asked whether anyone would accept millions of dollars if they had only 24 hours left to live, arguing that the question highlights the true value of life over material possessions. According to him, people often spend too much time chasing wealth while overlooking the importance of their health and relationships.

Oreagba said his outlook on life has changed significantly over the years, adding that he no longer measures success solely by financial achievements. He noted that although he only gained nationwide recognition after his viral appearance at the 2024 Ojude Oba Festival, his lifestyle and personal values had remained largely unchanged long before the public attention.

He urged Nigerians to prioritise their wellbeing and appreciate life's simple blessings, stressing that money can be lost and regained, but time and health are irreplaceable. Oreagba said the lessons from his personal journey have reshaped his understanding of fulfilment and success.
