Fake Agency Probe: Reps Face Pressure to Summon Gbajabiamila as Adeyemi Ordered to Appear

The House of Representatives Ad-Hoc Committee investigating the controversial Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council has come under increasing pressure to invite the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, as part of its ongoing probe into the alleged fake government agency.

The demand intensified on Monday after the committee directed the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, to produce the alleged promoter of the council, Adeniyi Adeyemi, before lawmakers on Wednesday for questioning.

The committee, chaired by Plateau lawmaker Yusuf Gagdi, is investigating how the non-existent agency allegedly secured government office accommodation and a ₦1.32 billion allocation in the 2026 Appropriation Act using forged official documents.

Since the probe began, the panel has heard testimonies from the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Walson-Jack; Budget Office Director-General, Tanimu Yakubu; Accountant-General of the Federation, Shamseldeen Ogunjimi; Director of Banking Services at the Central Bank of Nigeria, Hamisu Abdullahi; and a representative of the Inspector-General of Police.

A source familiar with the proceedings questioned why lawmakers had yet to summon Gbajabiamila despite allegations linking him to the matter.

The source also criticised the committee for failing to seek clarification from the police regarding the reported death of Dolapo Tanimola, the alleged intermediary through whom Adeyemi claimed to have paid ₦400 million to facilitate his appointment.

Political analyst Jackson Ojo also faulted the committee for not inviting the Chief of Staff to clear his name, arguing that the omission raised doubts about the depth of the investigation.

Similarly, the Human and Environmental Development Agenda called on Gbajabiamila to step aside pending the outcome of investigations while urging the committee to question Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, over the role of his office.

During Monday’s hearing, police confirmed receiving petitions alleging that Adeyemi falsely presented himself as Director-General of the council and used forged presidential documents to obtain official recognition.

The Accountant-General also told lawmakers that his office unknowingly processed requests from the council after receiving what appeared to be authentic correspondence from the State House, later discovered to be forged.

The committee is expected to continue hearings on Wednesday when Adeyemi appears before lawmakers to answer questions regarding the allegations.
