Ex-IG Adamu’s Exit No Threat to APC — Nasarawa Chairman
The Nasarawa APC chairman says former Inspector-General Abubakar Adamu’s defection will not affect the party’s 2027 chances, insisting its achievements and grassroots support remain strong.
The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Nasarawa State, Aliyu Bello, has dismissed concerns over the defection of former Inspector-General of Police, Abubakar Adamu, to the Social Democratic Congress, insisting that the development poses no threat to the party’s prospects in the 2027 general elections.
Bello made the remarks during a political rally held at Angwan Gayam in Gayam Electoral Ward, Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital, on Tuesday.
The APC chairman urged supporters of the former police chief who remain within the party to accept the outcome of the governorship primary election and continue supporting the APC.
Adamu recently lost the APC governorship primary election to Senator Ahmed Wadada, who emerged as the party’s candidate for the 2027 governorship election.
Addressing supporters at the rally, Bello criticised the activities of some groups loyal to the former IGP who have reportedly been burning brooms, the official symbol of the APC, as a sign of protest against the party.
According to him, such actions cannot diminish the party’s influence or erase its achievements in the state.
“Brooms can be burnt, but the achievements and impact of our party in the state, as well as the ideology behind the broom, cannot be burnt,” Bello said.
He argued that the APC’s strength in Nasarawa is rooted in governance achievements and not merely in party symbols.
The chairman highlighted infrastructural development, peaceful coexistence, youth empowerment, job creation and women inclusion as some of the accomplishments recorded under Governor Abdullahi Sule.
He also credited President Bola Tinubu for attracting federal projects and investments to the state.
Bello cautioned residents against embracing divisive politics or being influenced by politicians dissatisfied with the outcome of the party’s primary election.
He challenged those opposing the APC to present their own records of service and contributions to the people of Nasarawa State.
Also speaking at the rally, Lafia Local Government Deputy Chairman, Uba Arikya, called for issue-based politics focused on governance and development rather than personal attacks.
An APC chieftain, Sidi Ndagi, urged voters to support all APC candidates in the 2027 elections, while commending Governor Sule for his developmental achievements across the state.
