Enhancing Civic Participation: Anambra Information Ministry Finalises Strategic Voter Education Pact with National Orientation Agency
The Anambra State Ministry of Information and the National Orientation Agency have partnered to run joint grassroots civic enlightenment and voter education campaigns to combat political apathy across the state.
The Anambra State Ministry of Information has concluded plans to establish a collaborative partnership with the National Orientation Agency (NOA) to aggressively expand grassroots civic engagement and voter education ahead of upcoming electoral cycles.
The strategic alignment aims to dismantle deep-seated political apathy, counter the spread of digital misinformation, and re-engage rural and peri-urban demographics who have historically stayed away from the polling booths due to a lack of institutional trust.
The state's Commissioner for Information, Dr Law Mefor, announced the institutional tie-up following a high-level coordination meeting in Awka with the freshly appointed Substantive Director of NOA in Anambra State, Barrister Lady Ifeoma Chijioke.
Under the newly formalised framework, the Ministry of Information will grant NOA full operational access to its extensive state-controlled media apparatus, including regional radio networks, digital information channels, and local community public address networks.
"A thoroughly sensitised electorate remains the bedrock of a resilient democratic ecosystem," Mefor remarked during the session. He noted that by pooling resources, both agencies can construct a unified communication structure that translates complex civic obligations and electoral guidelines into accessible, local languages for the general public.
In response, Barrister Chijioke highlighted that the partnership is a timely booster for NOA’s ongoing grassroots campaigns. She emphasized that the collaboration will focus tightly on explaining the technical updates in voting technologies to ordinary citizens, reinforcing moral rectitude, and reassuring voters that their democratic choices carry definitive weight.
The joint initiative will also focus on establishing civic integrity clubs across educational institutions and launching targeted public sensitization caravans across the state's 21 local government areas.
By taking public enlightenment campaigns directly into rural marketplaces, town halls, and community squares, the state government hopes to cultivate an environment of transparent, well-informed civic participation.
- This coordinated push aligns with Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo’s broader administrative mandate to implement proactive, transparent governance models that directly connect public institutions with the everyday realities of the Anambra electorate.
