CBN Unveils Five Strategies to Drive Next Phase of Fintech Growth
The Central Bank of Nigeria has unveiled five strategies to accelerate fintech growth, focusing on regulatory innovation, cybersecurity, digital infrastructure, stakeholder collaboration and talent development. The apex bank said the measures will deepen financial inclusion and strengthen Nigeria's digital economy.
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has outlined five key strategies aimed at accelerating the next phase of growth in the country's financial technology (fintech) sector, saying stronger regulation, innovation and collaboration will be critical to expanding financial inclusion and strengthening Nigeria's digital economy.
Speaking at an industry engagement, the CBN said the strategies include enhancing regulatory innovation, strengthening cybersecurity and consumer protection, improving digital payment infrastructure, promoting collaboration among stakeholders, and supporting talent development and innovation. The apex bank noted that these measures are intended to build a resilient and globally competitive fintech ecosystem.
According to the CBN, Nigeria's fintech industry has emerged as one of Africa's fastest-growing digital sectors, attracting significant investment and transforming access to financial services. The Bank stressed that sustaining this momentum would require policies that encourage innovation while safeguarding the financial system against emerging risks.
The apex bank also pledged to deepen engagement with fintech operators, financial institutions, regulators and development partners to address regulatory challenges and improve the ease of doing business. It added that investments in digital infrastructure and skills development would help unlock new opportunities for businesses and consumers.
The CBN reaffirmed its commitment to creating an enabling environment where fintech companies can thrive while maintaining financial stability. It expressed confidence that the implementation of the five strategies would strengthen digital payments, boost financial inclusion and support Nigeria's broader economic transformation.
