Atiku Raises Alarm Over Mysterious Credit Alert, Suspected Data Breach

Former Vice President and African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has raised concerns over a suspicious credit transaction into one of his private bank accounts, describing the incident as a possible breach of confidential banking information and calling on security agencies to investigate.

The allegation was made in a statement issued on Friday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu.

According to the statement, the transaction originated from an individual unknown to the former vice president and carried the narration, “Contribution Electioneering Campaign.”

Shaibu said neither Atiku nor his campaign team requested, authorised or had prior knowledge of the transfer, insisting the payment was unsolicited and raised serious security concerns.

He explained that the account involved is a strictly private bank account whose details are not publicly available, making the source of the information particularly alarming.

The statement questioned how an unknown individual obtained the confidential account details of a private citizen, warning that the incident could point to a wider compromise of financial privacy.

According to Shaibu, if the banking information of a former vice president and a leading presidential candidate could be accessed without authorisation, then the financial records of ordinary Nigerians could also be vulnerable.

He further suggested that the confidential information may have been obtained through individuals with privileged access to sensitive banking records.

If such a scenario is confirmed, he argued, it would amount to a serious abuse of authority capable of exposing account holders to security risks, including kidnapping, terrorism, banditry, financial fraud and other criminal activities.

The statement urged relevant security and regulatory agencies to thoroughly investigate the source of the transaction and determine how the account information became accessible.

It also described the incident as one of several suspicious developments occurring ahead of the 2027 general elections, alleging that attempts were being made to undermine the former vice president.

Shaibu, however, maintained that Atiku would not be distracted by what he described as attempts at character assassination.

He insisted that similar tactics had failed in the past and would not succeed now, adding that the ADC presidential candidate remained committed to presenting Nigerians with practical solutions to the country’s economic and governance challenges.

The statement concluded by assuring supporters that Atiku would continue to focus on his campaign while leaving the matter in the hands of the appropriate authorities for investigation.
