APM: Nigerians Have Embraced Makinde as Tinubu’s Credible Alternative for 2027

The Allied People’s Movement (APM) has declared that Nigerians have embraced Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde as the most credible alternative to President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party said Makinde’s growing popularity reflects the desire of Nigerians for accountable leadership and effective governance, describing him as the rallying point for citizens seeking political change.

Speaking in Abuja on Sunday, APM National Publicity Secretary Abubakar Yusuf said the party’s cross-party consultations were making significant progress as it works to build a formidable opposition coalition for the 2027 elections.

According to Yusuf, the APM has continued to attract support from politicians and citizens across the country, including members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He cited the decision of thousands of PDP members in Ekiti State, who recently reaffirmed their support for Makinde while maintaining their membership and structure within the PDP.

“Governor Makinde has already become the rallying point for Nigerians, especially the youth,” Yusuf said.

“As you are already aware, given Governor Makinde’s sterling performance, especially as Governor of Oyo State, Nigerians have accepted him as the credible alternative to President Tinubu, who has failed the nation in every ramification.”

Yusuf maintained that the APM was fully committed to winning the 2027 presidential election and was intensifying efforts to strengthen its nationwide political structure.

He added that the party’s alliance discussions with like-minded political groups were yielding positive results and that more endorsements were expected in the coming months.

The APM spokesman attributed Makinde’s growing acceptance to what he described as the governor’s record in Oyo State, particularly in the areas of economic development, security, infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture and civil service welfare.

He assured Nigerians that the party would run an issue-based campaign focused on national renewal and improved governance.

Yusuf also pledged that an APM-led administration would prioritise security, economic recovery, citizens’ welfare and sustainable development if entrusted with power in 2027.

The Ekiti PDP had, on July 24, 2026, resolved to collaborate with the APM in future elections while retaining its identity and internal structure, pledging support for the party’s candidates in the presidential and legislative elections.
