AI Will Reshape Office Work Within 18 Months — Microsoft Chief Warns
To equip professionals and youths for the coming transformation, GNA and CPI Technologies are organising training programmes and AI adoption initiatives
The head of Microsoft AI has issued a stark prediction: artificial intelligence will trigger a major disruption in white-collar jobs globally within the next year and a half.
Mustafa Suleyman, Chief Executive Officer of Microsoft AI, told the Financial Times that AI systems are quickly reaching “human-level performance” in many professional tasks. He warned that jobs heavily reliant on computer work, such as accounting, legal services, marketing, administration, coding, and project management, are becoming increasingly vulnerable to automation.
For decades, professional qualifications like MBAs and law degrees have been seen as reliable routes to career security. However, Suleyman argues that rapid advances in computing power and AI capabilities are now challenging that long-held belief.
He noted that advanced AI systems can already perform coding, data analysis, research, writing, and administrative tasks at levels that match or even surpass many human professionals.
Suleyman’s warning adds to a growing list of concerns from technology leaders. Earlier in 2025, Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, predicted that AI could eliminate up to half of entry-level white-collar jobs. Jim Farley, CEO of Ford Motor Company, also forecast a significant reduction in white-collar employment across the United States. OpenAI’s Sam Altman has similarly acknowledged the speed and disruptive potential of AI development.
AI researcher Matt Shumer compared the current moment to the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, cautioning that society may still be underestimating the scale and speed of the coming change.
New Opportunities And The Way Forward
Despite the warnings, technology analysts and economists believe the AI era will also create new roles. Emerging opportunities include AI development, oversight, cybersecurity, data management, robotics, digital infrastructure, prompt engineering, AI governance, and human-AI collaboration.
Experts increasingly stress that skills such as AI literacy, digital adaptability, continuous learning, and workforce reskilling will be critical survival strategies in the evolving AI-driven economy.
The growing debate, they say, is no longer about whether AI will transform the workplace, but how governments, educational institutions, businesses, and individuals will respond to one of the most significant technological shifts in modern history.
Industry observers also advise professionals not to be caught unaware. They recommend intentionally learning about artificial intelligence, understanding its practical applications, and beginning to use AI tools within one’s own field. Professionals who successfully integrate AI into their daily work, they argue, are far more likely to remain relevant, productive, and competitive in the emerging digital economy.
GNA, CPI Technologies Partner To Bridge AI Skills Gap
To equip businessmen, women, professionals, and youths for the coming transformation, the Great Nigerian Assembly (GNA) has partnered with CPI Technologies Inc., a global IT service provider and AI integration firm, to organise training programmes, symposia, and assist organisations in their AI adoption journey.
The Executive Director of GNA, Dr Kayode Elusoji, expressed confidence that the forthcoming GNA and CPI Technologies Inc. seminar scheduled for May 30 is a step in the right direction.
In support of the initiative, Dr Yakub Saheed, Regional Director of i3Cert Inc., Africa & Middle East Operations, announced that the organisation will provide examination vouchers for attendees. These vouchers, he explained, can be used by participants or given to their wards for exam registration within three months.
Additionally, Engr. Tunde Mabinuori, the General Manager of CPI Technologies, said the organisation is offering discounted AI-powered websites for participants’ businesses, further enabling small and medium enterprises to leverage digital tools in the emerging AI-driven economy.
