Adeola Polls 304,055 Votes, Emerges Ogun APC Governorship Candidate
Sen. Solomon Adeola won the APC governorship primary in Ogun State with 304,055 votes, defeating Abayomi Hunye, who scored zero. He was declared the party’s 2027 candidate. Adeola pledged unity, continuity, and development, while Governor Abiodun praised the peaceful process and confidence shown by party members across the state.
The consensus candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State, Sen. Solomon Adeola, has emerged winner of the party’s governorship primary held on Thursday.
Adeola, popularly known as “Yayi,” scored 304,055 votes to defeat his opponent, Mr Abayomi Hunye, who polled zero votes in the contest.
Recall that Hunye had earlier picked up the APC nomination form despite the party’s adoption of Adeola as its consensus candidate, backed by the majority of aspirants and key leaders, including Governor Dapo Abiodun.
Reports indicate that Hunye participated in the primary election at his ward in Tube, Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State, where the exercise reportedly recorded a large and peaceful turnout.
Speaking after casting his vote, Hunye dismissed claims of disqualification, insisting that the crowd at his ward reflected his popularity and grassroots support across the state.
He also appealed to President Bola Tinubu and Governor Abiodun to ensure that the process was transparent and that votes were properly counted without bias.
Announcing the result at the party secretariat in Abeokuta, the Chairman of the Governorship Primary Election Committee, Mr Wale Ohu, said the party recorded 343,292 registered voters, with 305,287 accredited for the exercise.
He declared that Adeola won with 304,055 votes, while Hunye scored zero votes.
Ohu formally announced Adeola as the APC governorship candidate for the 2027 election in Ogun State.
In his acceptance speech, Adeola pledged to build on the achievements of the current administration and maintain peace and unity within the party.
He commended Governor Abiodun for ensuring a peaceful and orderly primary, describing the process as unprecedented in the political history of the state.
“I never imagined or believed that the exercise would be this peaceful… but by the grace of God, nothing is impossible,” he said.
Adeola added that if elected in 2027, he would work to consolidate development and ensure a smooth transition of leadership in Ogun State.
Governor Abiodun, in his remarks, described Adeola’s emergence as a reflection of the confidence and trust placed in him by party members across the state, noting that the peaceful conduct of the primaries marked a significant milestone in Ogun’s political history.
