Adeleke, Oyebamiji Sign Peace Accord Ahead of Osun 2026 Governorship Election

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, have signed a peace accord ahead of the 2026 governorship election, pledging to promote a peaceful, credible and violence-free electoral process.

The peace pact was signed at a stakeholders' meeting organised by the National Peace Committee in collaboration with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies and other electoral stakeholders. The initiative is aimed at preventing political violence and fostering an atmosphere conducive to free and fair elections.

Speaking at the event, Governor Adeleke reaffirmed his commitment to conducting his campaign peacefully and urged his supporters to avoid any form of violence, intimidation or electoral misconduct. He stressed that democracy thrives when political actors respect the rule of law and allow voters to make their choices without fear or coercion.

Similarly, APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji pledged to run an issue-based campaign and called on members of all political parties to prioritise peace before, during and after the election. He expressed confidence in the electoral process and urged security agencies to remain impartial in carrying out their responsibilities.

Representatives of the National Peace Committee commended the candidates for embracing dialogue over confrontation, noting that political leaders have a responsibility to prevent violence through their actions and rhetoric. They urged all parties to honour the commitments made in the accord and to resolve disputes through legal and constitutional channels.

Security agencies and INEC also assured residents of their readiness to ensure a secure and transparent election, promising to enforce electoral laws without bias. They encouraged voters to participate peacefully and report any acts capable of undermining the integrity of the poll.
