Adeleke Escapes Unhurt As Podium Collapses At Osun Rally
Governor Ademola Adeleke escaped unhurt after a podium collapsed during a rally in Ijebu-Jesa, Osun State. The incident caused panic but no fatalities, and the programme later resumed.
Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, escaped unhurt on Wednesday after a podium collapsed during a political rally in Ijebu-Jesa, causing panic among attendees and briefly disrupting the event.
The incident occurred while activities were ongoing at the rally, with several top government officials and political stakeholders seated on the platform. A video circulating online showed the moment the structure suddenly gave way, sending those on it scrambling for safety.
Among those on the podium at the time were the Deputy Governor, Kola Adewusi, Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun, and spokesperson of the Imole Campaign Council, Pelumi Olajengbesi.
The collapse happened shortly after a musical performance had ended. As the event anchor prepared to introduce the next item on the programme, the podium suddenly caved in, triggering fear among participants and spectators.
Eyewitnesses said the incident caused temporary confusion at the venue as security personnel and emergency responders quickly moved to evacuate those trapped in the wreckage. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported, while those affected were safely rescued.
A source at the rally, who requested anonymity because he was not authorised to speak on the matter, confirmed that the governor and other dignitaries escaped without serious injuries.
According to the source, security officials acted swiftly to secure the area and remove the affected persons from the collapsed structure. The prompt response helped prevent further casualties and restored order at the venue.
Despite the disruption, organisers resumed the programme after safety checks were carried out and the situation was brought under control.
The incident has raised concerns about safety standards at public events, particularly regarding the construction and inspection of temporary structures used to host large gatherings.
Authorities have yet to officially disclose the cause of the collapse, while further assessments are expected to determine whether structural defects or overcrowding contributed to the incident.
