ADC To Tinubu: Nigerians Starving To Death Under Your Administration
ADC says over 17 million Nigerians face acute hunger, blaming Tinubu’s policies, insecurity and rising food inflation for worsening the country’s humanitarian crisis nationwide.
The African Democratic Congress, ADC, has accused President Bola Tinubu’s administration of driving millions of Nigerians into hunger, following a report by the United Nations World Food Programme indicating that more than 17 million people are facing acute food insecurity.
Reacting to the report on Monday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, described the situation as a growing humanitarian disaster caused by what he called the Federal Government’s failed policies, insecurity and poor economic management.
According to Abdullahi, the findings of the World Food Programme confirm that millions of Nigerians are experiencing severe hunger, particularly across conflict affected states in northern Nigeria.
He argued that the worsening food crisis was not the result of natural causes but a consequence of government failures to protect farming communities, address insecurity and ease the burden of rising food prices.
The ADC spokesman said the report showed that more than 17 million Nigerians across nine northern states are facing crisis, emergency or catastrophic levels of food insecurity, representing an increase from previous projections.
He noted that Borno State alone accounts for over three million food insecure persons, while the combined figure for Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states has risen to about 6.2 million people.
Abdullahi maintained that the report should serve as a wake up call for the Federal Government to urgently review its security and economic policies.
He accused the Tinubu administration of failing to contain terrorism and banditry, which he said have displaced thousands of farmers and reduced agricultural production across affected communities.
The ADC also criticised the government’s repeated assurances that the economic hardship facing Nigerians would be temporary, insisting that living conditions have continued to deteriorate.
According to the opposition party, increasing food inflation, declining agricultural output and persistent insecurity have combined to deepen poverty and worsen the humanitarian situation across the country.
The party urged the Federal Government to implement urgent measures to restore security in farming communities, support agricultural production and introduce policies that would make food more affordable for ordinary Nigerians.
