ADC Fires at Tinubu Government, Warns Nigeria Is Sliding Into “Ponzi Economy”
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of pushing Nigeria toward what it described as a “Ponzi economy” through excessive borrowing and poor economic management.
In a statement issued by the party’s national leadership, the ADC expressed concern over Nigeria’s rising debt profile, inflation, and increasing cost of living, warning that the country’s economic direction could worsen hardship for millions of citizens if urgent reforms are not implemented.
The party argued that the government was relying heavily on borrowing to finance expenditures without corresponding improvements in production, infrastructure, or citizens’ welfare. According to the ADC, such an approach could place future generations under severe financial pressure.
ADC officials also criticized the rising cost of food, fuel, transportation, and electricity, saying ordinary Nigerians continue to struggle despite repeated government assurances of economic recovery. The party called for policies aimed at boosting local production, reducing unemployment, and strengthening public confidence in the economy.
According to the statement, Nigeria risks long-term economic instability if fiscal discipline, transparency, and sustainable investment strategies are not prioritized. The opposition party urged the federal government to focus on economic reforms capable of improving living conditions and reducing dependence on debt.
Economic analysts say debates over Nigeria’s debt burden, inflation, and economic policies are expected to remain central issues in the build-up to the 2027 general elections, with opposition parties increasingly targeting the government’s handling of the economy.
